Land to the West of Oxford Road

A changing chapter for this part of North Oxford

Land west of Oxford Road, formerly occupied by North Oxford Golf Club, is allocated for housing in Cherwell District Council’s Local Plan to help meet Oxford’s unmet housing needs. Oxford University Development (OUD) is leading work on behalf of the three landowners, Exeter College, Merton College and Oxford University, to progress plans for this new neighbourhood.

The golf club has now vacated the site following an agreement reached by its management and approved by members. OUD and the landowners will now begin the process of preparing an outline planning application.

Local plan context

The Local Plan identifies land west of Oxford Road, known as PR6b, for new homes in a sustainable location close to Oxford Parkway. The allocation will open up previously private land, strengthening walking and cycling links and supporting biodiversity.

What happens next?

Over the coming months OUD will carry out a series of studies to form a detailed understanding of the site, including its landscape, access and technical constraints. This work will inform an outline planning application.

Before any planning application is taken forward there will be a programme of engagement with neighbours, community groups and other stakeholders. This will give people the chance to share their views at an early stage and help shape key elements of the emerging proposals.

Q&A

When will the golf course close

The golf club closed at the end of October and departed fully in November.

What is the role of OUD?

OUD is acting on behalf of Exeter College, Merton College and Oxford University to progress the site through the planning process. This includes commissioning surveys, preparing design work, coordinating engagement and selecting a development partner following outline consent.

Are there any plans for redevelopment?

The landowners are in the early stages of developing proposals. Engagement will take place before any plans are submitted.

Will the public have a say?

Yes. There will be community engagement before any planning application is developed.

What will the tenure of homes be on the site?

The tenure of the homes is to be determined as proposals are developed and will be detailed as part of consultation with stakeholders.

How can I stay updated?

This website will be kept up to date as the project moves forward. More details about engagement will be shared ahead of any public activity. For all enquiries, please contact consultation@cascadecommunications.co.uk.
